3 Gospel-Centered Heart Attitudes

““Judge not, and you will not be judged;
condemn not, and you will not be condemned;
forgive, and you will be forgiven;”
Luke 6:37 ESV
The way of Jesus is freedom.
His way is the way of mercy, love and forgiveness.
In the passage above, Jesus teaches us how to live in his freedom. I see three heart attitudes in this passage that will relieve some of the burdens you live with.
1.) Judge not and you will not be judged (disciplined).
Judging others is a huge burden for your redeemed soul. When we judge others we are operating on works and not God’s grace.
This might be writing someone off for a failure. Or hearing one side of a story and judging someone with partial information. It could be assuming the worst, or making up a narrative about someone in your head. It could be rejecting someone because you have a different opinion, or a different approach or a different perspective.
Maybe they really messed up, but mercy is the way.
Judging others is a great way to jam up your soul with bitterness. I’m not saying we don’t need to make judgment calls sometimes, but we must always move towards mercy because God has had mercy on us.
So Judge not!
2.) Condemnation is not the ministry of the Lord towards believers.
He sets us free from condemnation. When we condemn someone that God has rescued we are at odds with the Lord. Christians do not condemn, but rather we live in the world with mercy and grace.
3.) Forgive.
This is one of the most important things for you to do each day. Forgive sins, forgive failures, forgive flaws, forgive annoying personality traits, forgive the weirdness of others, forgive even the evil of your enemies.
God has done this for us in Jesus.
Jesus took the judgement and was condemned for our trespasses all to bring forgiveness and restoration to us, the undeserving.
Go and do likewise.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Harvey
