A Prayer for All Souls Church
Date Published: 01 / 31 / 2023 |
14 ….I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Ephesians 3:14–21
Do you ever struggle to know what to pray?
Did you know that through the Scriptures we have prayers that are divinely inspired you can pray through when you don’t know what to pray?
Above we have an example from the Apostle Paul’s prayer life. This is what he prayed for the Ephesian Church. Ephesus at the time was a world class city (like LA) with one small little church of maybe 30-50 people. His prayers were primarily about the Ephesian Christians’ knowledge and experience of God and his love.
So I thought, what if we prayed this together for All Souls Church this year? Would you join me? At least for today as you read this, but also to pray on your way to church this year.
- Bow your knees before the Father (if you can do it physically or at least let this be the posture of your heart). verse 14
- Pray for the souls at All Souls to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit in their inner being. verse 16
- Pray for the pastors, staff, members, attenders and the seekers that Christ will increasingly dwell in their hearts through faith. Increasing faith will make us rooted in the love of God. verse 17
- Pray for the ability to comprehend the vastness of the love of God for yourself and the church. Not just head knowledge, but also experience. verse 18-9
- Expect God to provide these things by his grace.Acknowledge that God is working for your good beyond what you could ever ask or think. verse 20-21
Let’s seek God together this year and see what he does. He is really listening. He really answers your prayers. He wants you to commune with him. Maybe this is the year to devote yourself to seeking his face. There is no greater delight in the universe.
Let’s see what He does with All Souls Church this year!
Grace and peace,
Pastor Harvey
