Attitude of Gratitude: Part 2

How do we give thanks to God in uncertain times?
How do we give thanks when our world is falling apart?
Psalm 75 teaches us to maintain spiritual maturity in the chaos.
I see six steps of thanksgiving from this Psalm.
Step 1: Thank God and focus on his works in the world.
1 We give thanks to you, O God;
we give thanks, for your name is near.
We recount your wondrous deeds.
Step 2: The psalmist writes as God answering us by saying that despite our perspective and anxiety about the future, God is keeping things steady as he has for millions of years. Thank God for this.
2 “At the set time that I appoint
I will judge with equity.
3 When the earth totters, and all its inhabitants,
it is I who keep steady its pillars. Selah
Step 3: The proud people of the world seem to be winning while the marginalized suffer. God reassures us that the proud will not always boast, lie, and crush others. They seem to be winning for a time, but God will humble them. Thank God for this.
4 I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’
and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horn;
5 do not lift up your horn on high,
or speak with haughty neck.’”
6 For not from the east or from the west
and not from the wilderness comes lifting up,
7 but it is God who executes judgment,
putting down one and lifting up another.
Step 4: Remember God’s wrath. Remember that God will bring every wicked deed into judgment. No one will get away with anything. Especially the ultra rich and those who hold back wealth that could be helping others. Thank God for this!
8 For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup
with foaming wine, well mixed,
and he pours out from it,
and all the wicked of the earth
shall drain it down to the dregs.
9 But I will declare it forever;
I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
Step 5: Finally, in the last days He will rule the earth and appoint leaders who will rule with justice and not extortion. Thank God!
10 All the horns of the wicked I will cut off,
but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.
Step 6: God is in control. God is working a plan. He is not slow to fulfill his promises but he is waiting for his children to come into his grace. God will make all the wrong right one day. Thank God!
Grace and peace,
Pastor Harvey
