Bless Us! - Part 1

Bless Us! - Part 1 cover for post

May God be gracious to us

and bless us

and make his face shine upon us,

Selah,

THAT your way may be known

on earth,

your saving power to all nations!

Psalm 67:1-2

Psalm 67 is one of my favorites. It is a prayer asking God for blessing. Not just any blessing, but a blessing that comes from God’s face (God’s countenance).

This is a blessing that comes from the character and heart of God.

This is the blessing of being known by God and to know God. Blessed to pray to him and to have him with us and for us in this journey of life.

He is there. He loves you.

The blessing that the psalmist prays for flows from God’s grace: God’s undeserved “One Way Love” and blessing.

So we do not ask God for blessing on the basis of our performance, achievements, failures, struggles, or luck, but we ask him based on the fact that he loves to give his blessing to the undeserving, those who look to him in trust and relief.

Take a moment now to pray this one sentence prayer from Psalm 67. Pray it over your life, your family, your church, your finances, etc.

It is not selfish to pray for God’s blessing, it is a calling.

God calls you to look to him for blessing and direction. He is a good Father that wants to help you.

When you pray for his blessing you align yourself with God!

Now don’t think of just material or financial blessing (although you would be wise to pray for them), but pray primarily for spiritual blessing.

Pray for understanding.

Pray that God’s Word would penetrate our hard hearts.

Pray for your relationships, work/career life, pray for your spouse or future spouse, pray for your kids or future kids, pray for your neighborhood, city, state, country, other countries. Pray for God’s blessing on these things.

Over the next 2 weeks we will look at this prayer of blessing again to mine out some other helpful truths.

May the Lord bless you,

Pastor Harvey
