Dependence On God
Date Published: 07 / 29 / 2025 |

One of the most important things that we need to learn as Christians is dependence on God.
Jesus tells us, “Apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5).
What he means is you cannot live the life God requires without Jesus’ help. Just as in salvation He does what we need without our contribution, the same is true to live the Christian life.
You need God.
You need God's Spirit to work in you.
The primary way to lean into dependence on God for your life is prayer. Below is a prayer of dependence for you to pray.
Psalm 119:145-148
145 With my whole heart I cry; answer me, O Lord!
I will keep your statutes.
Here we see the cry of the believing heart. A cry to God for help. The psalmist knows he needs God’s power to obey God.
146 I call to you; save me,
that I may observe your testimonies.
This verse tells us we not only need God to save us from sin and judgement, but we need God to observe God’s Word.
147 I rise before dawn and cry for help;
I hope in your words.
He begins his day with a cry for help and an affirmation that God’s Word is the place of hope.
148 My eyes are awake before the watches of the night,
that I may meditate on your promise.
When he wakes up in the middle of the night, He prays and meditates on God’s promise.
Prayer is dependence on God and trust in his will.
Homework:
Pray through this Psalm and express to God your dependence on Him.
