Don't Be Wise In Your Own Eyes
Date Published: 07 / 15 / 2026 |
Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.
Proverbs 26:12
Wisdom Vs. Foolishness:
That is the theme of Proverbs.
The wise are those who incorporate the Words of God into their living, the fools are those who hear the Word, but it never penetrates their heart.
It is possible to be a foolish Christian.
These are those who hear the Word,
but do not put it into practice.
Proverbs 26:12 says that a man who is wise in his own eyes is worse than a fool!
Humility is the approach to life that you don’t know everything and in fact you are often wrong. A wise man is someone who is suspicious of his own opinions.
Life and the Word of God both show us that we are often wrong.
We all have:
- Wrong Perspectives
- Wrong Decisions
- Wrong Opinions
- Wrong Politics
- Wrong Emotions
- Wrong Theology
- Wrong Actions
- Wrong Religion
- Wrong Assumptions
- Wrong Parenting
- Wrong Information
- Wrong Spending
- Wrong Beliefs
- Wrong Lusts
When you understand this you can learn about yourself and the world around you better by being open to truth wherever you find it including in those who disagree with you.
Over time you learn that some if not many of the ways you thought about life were incorrect.
Now you can stop trying to be right all the time.
Being right gains you nothing and breaks down all your relationships. But seeking truth with humility will make you a beautiful person even though you are broken.
- What if you sought to understand others and not just to be understood by others?
- What if you held Christ tightly and your opinions lightly?
- What if you took God and his Word seriously and took yourself less seriously?
- What if you started to believe that God gave you two ears and one mouth for a reason?
Plus you will probably find that people might want to spend more time with you if you stop being wise in your own eyes.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Harvey
