Holy Week

Holy Week cover for post

“And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers.

But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets,

that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled.

Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out,

that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,

and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago.

-The Apostle Peter, Acts 3:17-20

Holy week starts this Sunday with Palm Sunday. Each day from Sunday to Sunday, the Christian Church has remembered and reenacted Jesus’ final week called Passion Week (passion from the latin passio, to suffer). It is a time to contemplate the cross and it’s implications. A time to repent (change your mind), time to worship, time to press in to your spiritual life. Holy week is a time to refresh your soul in God by finding your story in the story of Jesus. Wise Christians have dedicated themselves to this yearly contemplation for nearly 2000 years. It functions as a kind of reset button for the spiritual life.

Here are 6 opportunities in Holy Week at All Souls Church to center yourself on the gospel:

Palm Sunday

Special service with Palm Fronds. We start the service at 10am on the lawn to begin the “Liturgy of the Palms” and then we will move inside the sanctuary together for worship. You don’t want to be late! Palm Sunday is the entrance into the drama of Holy Week.

Holy Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday

There will be a 10 min video devotion on IG, FB, sent via email and on the website posted by 8am.

Good Friday:

Good Friday Service is a one hour, low-key, candlelit worship service contemplating the death of Christ at 7PM

Holy Saturday:

At Home Easter Vigil. Take 30 Minutes in silence, scripture, and prayer to prepare yourself to celebrate the resurrection. Sit in silence for 10 minutes, Read 1 Corinthians 15:1-28, Pray and worship God for 10 minutes

Easter Sunday:

Come to church ready to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. If you get a chance, read John 20 before church or listen to it on the way to church. Show up early to church for donuts and coffee, celebrate Jesus by welcoming visitors, stay after for the Brunch with Waffle Bar. Small Souls will also be having an Easter egg hunt.

This is my favorite ministry week of the year. I'm looking forward to celebrating together as a church!

Grace and peace,

Pastor Harvey
