Whoever Blesses Will Be Enriched

Whoever brings blessing will be enriched,
and the one who waters will himself be watered.
Proverbs 11:25
God has blessed you. God blesses his people. God has blessed us to be a blessing.
May God be gracious to us and bless
us and make his face to shine upon
us, that your way may be known
in all the earth, your saving power
among all nations.
Psalm 67:1-2
God wants you to be a blessing to those around you. And when you become a blessing to those around you God enriches your life with more blessing.
Blessing others is the pathway to contentment and joy.
Many times in our lives we can feel the discontent and the self-oriented sorrow of living in a fallen world, with fallen bodies, with fallen people. In those times, we might need someone to bless us with a kind word, a gift, a meal, or prayer.
But don’t forget that often the solution to the feelings of emptiness and frustration in life is to seek to be a blessing to someone else.
Blessing others takes you out of yourself and get’s you thinking about someone else’s needs.
The process of being a blessing changes your focus from self to the other and ultimately to God.
Those without faith assume that if I bless others there will not be enough blessing for myself. But in God’s economy the one who waters others will be watered.
The one who refreshes others will be refreshed.
Another way to look at this is to say that a life lived for self blessing is a shallow life that will never satisfy.
Seeking only your own blessing is like drinking salt water. It makes you even more thirsty and can eventually kill you.
Those who understand the gospel know that as Jesus said “It is more blessed to give that to receive”
(Acts 20:35.)
God himself has practiced this by giving us his Son. He also gives us the church, the Spirit, and daily bread. And guess what? God is the most satisfied, content, joyous Being in the universe. He practices what he preaches and by blessing us daily he experiences great happiness.
How about you? Who can you bless?
Who needs refreshment and kindness from you?
Who is God putting into your life so that he might bless them through you?
Who can you pray for?
Who can you give a meal to?
Who can you encourage?
Who can you celebrate?
Make it your goal to bless someone everyday, not out of religious duty, but rather because God is blessing you.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Harvey
