Life In The Spirit

Life In The Spirit cover for post

For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot.

Romans 8:2-7

Do you believe in Jesus Christ?

Do you believe that God raised him from the dead?

Do you believe that God has given you the Holy Spirit?

If yes, then how do we live by the Spirit?

I see 3 ways God shows us how to live by the power of the Holy Spirit and to deny the flesh (that broken part of us that still exists).

1.) Mindset

Whatever our mind is set on will direct our life.

When we set our mind on God, the Holy Spirit leads us and guides us. When we set our mind on the flesh and the world, we manifest independence from God.

The mind set on the flesh will bring death to every area of our life. This is why we need weekly church, to sit under the Word and let it shape our mindset.

2.) Faith

By putting our faith in what God has done for us in Jesus everyday, God’s Spirit works in us to “fulfill the righteous requirement of the Law.”

Our job is to focus on Jesus.

Pray to Jesus.

Respond to his Word.

When we do, the Holy Spirit works in us to do what God desires. Not perfectly, but consistently.

3.) Freedom

We are free from the condemnation of the Law. We have space to make mistakes and get back up.

We are freed by a love that provides what it demands.

If you mess up you are free.

If you do what is right

you are free.

Christianity is not religious bondage. Christianity brings freedom to be human and find your life in Jesus who sets you free.

There is a freedom in the Spirit of God to live by the grace that saved you.

Grace and peace,

Pastor Harvey
